Inspired by Icarus, the son of the inventor Daedulus, this pendant is hand carved in the traditional lost-wax casting method. According to legend, Daedalus constructed wings made out of feathers and beeswax for Icarus and himself so that they could escape imprisonment from the island of Crete. Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too high, as the sun would melt the wax holding the wings together. Icarus did not heed his father’s warning, and paid for the mistake with his life. 

Swords represent air, truth, and clarity. Wings reach out from each side of the pendant, a symbolic reminder of the danger that comes when one overextends their limits, while the wings represent the courage to achieve one’s goals.

All BDB jewelry is made from either; 22-24kt Solid Gold, .999 silver, Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver, Platinum, Paladium, Vermeil (18kt Gold Plating) or 22kt Gold Plating. I use real natural gems or cubic zirconia (CZs). No synthetic material is used unless requested. I work primarily in NON-ferrous metals, but I am willing to manufacture in any metal as a custom order. To make my work affordable to everyone, everything is available with #mm CZs as a custom order.

TIPS

Plated jewelry of any kind should never be worn in the ocean. The reason is because the salt and sand remove the gold from the surface, essentially removing the plating. You can; however, wear it in the shower and most swimming pools.
